The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office was established in 1661. 

Headquartered in the City of Kingston and located in the lower Hudson Valley of New York State, Ulster County is comprised of 20 towns, 3 villages and 1 city.  Encompassing 1,150 square miles with 2,200 miles of roadways, the 168,000 Ulster County residents, along with numerous visitors and tourists, are provided with professional law enforcement services from the Criminal Division of the Sheriff’s Office. 

The Corrections Division maintains a 221 person capacity maximum security detention facility while members of the Civil Division serve as the enforcement arm of the courts regarding civil matters.
