Criminal Division

Forty full time Criminal Division members, along with 21 part time members provide a variety of emergency service related functions in addition to basic law enforcement service.

Originally accredited in 1990 under the New York State Sheriff’s Association accreditation program, Ulster County was the first Sheriff’s Office in New York State to achieve this distinction.  The Criminal Division has successfully undergone two re-accreditation assements and is currently accredited by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).

7 Division members are assigned Detective duties with 1 on a multi-juridictional inter- county Narcotics Enforcement Task Force and 1 on a multi-juridictional inner county Family Violence Task Force.

1 member is assigned to the Juvenile Aid Bureau.  The duties consist of ongoing D.A.R.E. instruction and administration and management of a juvenile delinquency intervention program.

15 members make up the Underwater Search and Rescue Unit.

3 full time members, augmented by part time Deputy Sheriff’s, comprise the Navigation Unit.

At present, our K9 Unit consists of 1 dog and handler.

3 members serve as Accident Reconstructionists.

An additional 11 full time Deputy Sheriff’s and 2 civilian security guards make up the Court Security Divisions.
